Hello and happy new year!
This Christmas we had the amazing opportunity to photograph a stunning wedding at one of our favourite Kingston wedding venues , The Ivy Lea Club Gananoque.
Jill and Duncan have been living in Australia for the passed few years and have just recently moved home to Kingston. This made their wedding day extra special because their event was also a sort of home coming, and at Christmas no less. Surrounded by an intimate collection of friends and family at the Ivy Lea Club Jill and Duncan shared hand written vows with each other as the sunset on the St. Lawrence river – the backdrop of their wedding ceremony.
Earlier in the day Jill had expressed a keen interest to share their first look on her family dock. The conditions were wild, wavy, windy, and it was winter don’t forget, which added more drama to the occasion. I always love working with couples that don’t shy away from adventure, but court adventure in their lives and on the wedding day (pro-tip*). Jill even scaled some slippery riverside rocks and boulders in her 6 inch heels and that stunning Monique L’Huillier wedding dress to get a few more dynamic photos before the ceremony – this bride was crushing it. We lost Jill’s veil into the St Lawrence River during the first look – a fitting sacrifice to hermes on their wedding day – but it was soon fished out and dried before the ceremony.
As Yvon Chouinard, Patagonia’s founder and owner, is famous for saying, “It’s not an adventure until something goes wrong” (paraphrase).
Need-less-to-say, we loved photographing Jill and Duncan, and their touching and adventurous wedding day. Most definitely our kind of people. Congrats you two, and thank you for the fond memories.
